A coupled hydro-mechanical non-ordinary state-based peridynamics for the fissured porous rocks

Yundong Shou et al.

Summary: A novel coupled hydro-mechanical non-ordinary state-based peridynamics is proposed to investigate hydro-mechanical problems in fissured porous rocks. The model considers the effects of hydraulic bond, Biot's porous media theory, and mechanical deformation on hydraulic conductivity. Numerical experiments confirm the accuracy of the proposed peridynamic model.

Mechanical Properties and Permeability Evolution of Red Sandstone Subjected to Hydro-mechanical Coupling: Experiment and Discrete Element Modelling

Qiang Wang et al.

Summary: The study explores the hydro-mechanical behaviors of red sandstone under different stress conditions, showing that mechanical properties and permeability are influenced by changes in confining stress and seepage pressure. The permeability of the rock increases rapidly near peak stress, while also revealing insights on microcracking and how it affects the rock's behavior.

Liquid nitrogen fracturing efficiency as a function of coal rank: A multi-scale tomographic study

Hamed Akhondzadeh et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of liquid nitrogen fracturing in three different coal ranks, showing significant porosity enhancement in sub-bituminous and bituminous coal, but poor performance in anthracite. Additionally, the study revealed a direct relationship between the mechanical properties of the original coal and coal rank, with lower ranks experiencing more significant reduction in mechanical properties following damage. Overall, the results demonstrate promising efficiency of LN2 fracturing in enhancing gas recovery plans for coalbed methane extraction in different seams.

Laboratory investigations on failure, energy and permeability evolution of fissured rock-like materials under seepage pressures

Miao-Miao Kou et al.

Summary: This article investigates the coupled hydro-mechanical failure, energy and permeability of fissured rock-like specimens under triaxial compression through a series of laboratory experiments. The study reveals the influences of internal seepage pressure, confining pressure and inclination angle on crack initiation and propagation, deformation characteristics, ultimate fracture networks, permeability evolution and energy evolution during the progressive failure processes. The experimental results and failure mechanism provide a deep understanding for monitoring and controlling rock stability in geological engineering projects under coupling seepage-stress environments.

Mechanical properties, failure behaviors and permeability evolutions of fissured rock-like materials under coupled hydro-mechanical unloading

Miao-Miao Kou et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the failure mechanism and permeability evolution in fissured rock-like specimens under coupled hydromechanical conditions. The results showed that the nucleation of secondary cracks is influenced by the initial unloading state and hydraulic pressure levels. Additionally, quantitative relationships between 3-D fractal dimensions, mechanical strengths, and permeability were established to understand the coupled hydromechanical unloading failure mechanism.

Summary: This study demonstrates the feasibility and value of four machine learning approaches for analyzing and predicting Mode-I fracture toughness of rocks, with the random regression forest being more suitable for predicting toughness in ISRM-suggested CCNBD rock tests. The reliable functionality and rapid development of machine learning solutions have shown significant improvement over previous analytical and empirical solutions.

Fatigue Damage Mechanism and Deformation Behaviour of Granite Under Ultrahigh-Frequency Cyclic Loading Conditions

Yu Zhou et al.

Summary: Fatigue damage is a primary factor controlling rock fragmentation under ultrasonic vibration, with crack initiation and propagation being the direct cause of macro-damage. The specific fatigue damage mechanism of hard rock materials under high-frequency and low-amplitude cyclic loading conditions remains unclear, and this study investigated the mechanism of rock fragmentation under ultrasonic vibration through experiments and numerical simulations.
