Multiple physical properties of gas hydrate-bearing sediments recovered from Alaska North Slope 2018 Hydrate-01 Stratigraphic Test Well

Jun Yoneda et al.

Summary: The article discusses the results of experiments and analyses conducted on gas hydrate-bearing sediments recovered from a stratigraphic test well in the western part of the Prudhoe Bay Unit, Alaska North Slope. The experiments showed that the hydrates formed with thermogenic and microbial mixed gases, and that low strengthening and high permeability were observed in sediments with high hydrate saturation. The results also indicated minimal changes in porosity and permeability during tests due to the low-clay content and low compressibility of the quartz sand grains in the recovered cores.
