Metal-Free Supramolecular Catalytic Hydrolysis of Ammonia Borane through Cucurbituril Nanocavitands

Priyanka Ruz et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-free supramolecular strategy using cucurbit[5/8]uril (CB5/CB8) nanocavitands as catalysts was demonstrated to increase the hydrolysis rate and yield of hydrogen of ammonia borane. The complex of ammonia borane with CB reduces ammonia release and enhances hydrogen yield by stabilizing the ammonium ion at the host portals, bringing down the activation energy of hydrolysis. This high catalytic performance and reusability of CB catalysts at very low concentration make ammonia borane a promising supramolecular alternative for a sustainable on-board energy source.

Supramolecular Macrophage-Liposome Marriage for Cell-Hitchhiking Delivery and Immunotherapy of Acute Pneumonia and Melanoma

Cheng Gao et al.

Summary: A cell-friendly, host-guest chemistry mediated macrophage-liposome conjugate (M-L) has been developed for stable cell-hitchhiking drug delivery targeting inflamed tissues or cancer tissues. This strategy shows potential clinical applications as it does not affect the migratory and invasive behaviors of macrophages and enhances the therapeutic effects of drugs on diseases.

Photoinduced emissive naphthalenediimide radical anion in the confinement of cucurbituril nanocavity; in situ generation of gold nanoparticles

Raman Khurana et al.

Summary: By utilizing supramolecular assembly, novel emissive radical anions can be generated, stabilized, and reacted in situ in aqueous medium. These complexes undergo photoinduced electron transfer to produce radical anions, which exhibit stability within cucurbituril nanocavities and can be used for the reduction of Au3+ to form stable AuNPs. This dynamic stability window allows for potential applications in controlled assembly of smart materials and radical-induced reactions.
