Coordination mechanism of cyanine dyes on the surface of core@active shell β-NaGdF4:Yb3+,Er3+ nanocrystals and its role in enhancing upconversion luminescence

Hossein Beygi Nasrabadi et al.

Summary: Sensitization of lanthanide-doped upconversion nanocrystals (UCNCs) using organic dyes with broad and intense optical absorption is an interesting approach for enhancing their upconversion luminescence. The study showed that specific dyes like Cy 754 can greatly enhance the upconversion efficiency of UCNCs, while the triplet states of dyes play a significant role in the sensitization process.

Aluminum for Near Infrared Plasmonics: Amplified Up-Conversion Photoluminescence from Core-Shell Nanoparticles on Periodic Lattices

Yuan Gao et al.

Summary: Aluminum is shown to have plasmonic properties in the near infrared region, as demonstrated through the amplification of up-conversion photoluminescence using an Al nanostructure. By optimizing core-shell up-conversion nanoparticles with an Al plasmonic lattice, over 100-fold enhancement of up-conversion intensity is achieved. This study shows the potential of utilizing aluminum as a plasmonic material due to its low cost and abundance.
