A simple strategy that may effectively tackle the anode-electrolyte interface issues in solid-state lithium metal batteries

Bo Liu et al.

Summary: The study proposed a novel strategy targeting interface issues in solid-state lithium metal batteries by introducing alpha-MoO3 nanobelts into molten metallic lithium to form a Li-Mo composite. This composite improved wettability on the garnet electrolyte, significantly reducing interface resistance and inhibiting the generation of lithium dendrites. The research results suggest that designing lithium composite anodes with low cohesive energy and high interface binding energy to the solid electrolyte is an attractive and feasible solution to overcome interface problems.

The effects of local strain on the cubic Li7La3Zr2O12(001)/Li(001) interface: A first-principles study

Xun Zhang et al.

Summary: The research examines the stability of the c-LLZO/Li interface and the transport of lithium across it using a first-principles method. It is found that the interaction between the Li slab and c-LLZO slab is attractive and confirmed to be physical adsorption. Introducing vacancies in the Li layer does not significantly affect the interface energy, while the diffusion energy barriers of lithium across the interface are greatly influenced by the local strain.

Progress and perspective of interface design in garnet electrolyte-based all-solid-state batteries

Junrun Feng et al.

Summary: Inorganic solid-state electrolytes offer high energy density and stability by replacing liquid-phase electrolytes. Garnet-type electrolytes are considered top candidates for pairing with lithium metal due to their high conductivity and stability, but challenges at the electrolyte/electrode interface hinder optimal performance in solid-state batteries. Solutions include using Li-alloy anodes and nanostructured cathode hosts to address these challenges. Addressing the interface remains a key focus for future research and development in solid-state battery technology.
