Late Transition Metal Doped MXenes Showing Superb Bifunctional Electrocatalytic Activities for Water Splitting via Distinctive Mechanistic Pathways

Rohit Anand et al.

Summary: In this study, it is demonstrated that late transition metal doping can significantly enhance the HER/OER activities of MXenes. By embedding a single Ni or Co atom into MXenes, it provides a suitable amount of electrons for optimal adsorbate evolving mechanism, resulting in activated lattice oxygen mechanism. The stability and bifunctional catalytic capability of MXene combinations towards both HER and OER are shown.

Universal Machine Learning Interatomic Potentials: Surveying Solid Electrolytes

Amir Hajibabaei et al.

Summary: Ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) with on-the-fly machine learning (ML) using the sparse Gaussian process regression (SGPR) algorithm was applied to investigate Li diffusivity in hundreds of ternary crystals as potential electrolytes for solid-state batteries. Models generated for these crystals can be easily combined to create more general and transferable models, potentially for simulating new materials without further training. Hierarchical approach of combining different models paves the way for modeling large-scale complexity using a combinatorial approach.

Summary: The study introduces the utilization of an object-oriented design/screening tool, CATIDPy, for locating active single-atom alloy catalysts. By implementing a genetic-algorithm-based global optimization method, the study successfully identified 70 binary and 752 ternary candidate catalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction, recommending 6 binary and 142 ternary candidates for experimental synthesis. The experimental synthesis of Ni-based bimetallic catalysts further validated the reliability and efficiency of the CATIDPy workflow, showing promising results for real-world applications in water electrolysis techniques.
