Summary: Pyridinium-based ionic porous organic polymers (Py-iPOPs) were constructed from newly designed acetonitrile-functionalized ionic liquids and multi-carbaldehyde monomers by base-catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation. The obtained Py-iPOPs are regarded as efficient metal-free and halogen-free heterogeneous catalysts for atmospheric CO2 fixation under mild conditions.

Construction of halogenated graphenes by halogenation of hydrogenated graphene

Yang Yang et al.

Summary: Halogenated graphenes, including fluorographene, have been extensively studied, while research on other halogenated graphenes is still scarce. This work successfully prepared chlorinated and brominated graphenes from hydrogenated graphene, showing that the reactivity of sp3 C-H bonds on the surface of hydrogenated graphene is similar to that in common alkanes, providing new approaches to chlorinated and brominated graphenes. However, the efficiency of converting reactive sp3 C-H bonds into C-Cl or C-Br bonds still needs improvement.

Tailored covalent organic frameworks for simultaneously capturing and converting CO2 into cyclic carbonates

Rongchang Luo et al.

Summary: The catalytic cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides is considered as a promising and green pathway for CO2 utilization, with covalent organic frameworks (COFs) playing a key role in efficient capture and conversion of CO2. By regulating pore parameters and incorporating catalytically active components, well-designed COFs can offer a viable alternative to metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in meeting the multifaceted requirements of CO2 activation and transformation. The review highlights the recent advances in utilizing tailored COFs for capturing and converting CO2 into cyclic carbonates, with an emphasis on the rational design of organic polymeric monomers and strategic modification strategies for industrial application prospects.

POSS and imidazolium-constructed ionic porous hypercrosslinked polymers with multiple active sites for synergistic catalytic CO2 transformation

Yadong Zhang et al.

Summary: This work presents a facile one-pot approach to construct polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) and imidazolium-based ionic porous hypercrosslinked polymers (iPHCPs) with multiple active sites for efficient catalytic conversion of CO2 to cyclic carbonates. The synthesized iPHCPs possess mixed anions and in situ formed metal-halogen complex anions, contributing to their catalytic efficiency. The hierarchical micro-/mesoporous structure and fluffy nano-morphology of iPHCP-12 make it an efficient recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for CO2 conversion.
