First Direct Detection Constraints on Planck-Scale Mass Dark Matter with Multiple-Scatter Signatures Using the DEAP-3600 Detector

P. Adhikari et al.

Summary: Analysis of data collected with DEAP-3600 did not detect signals of supermassive dark matter, setting the first direct detection constraints on Planck-scale mass dark matter. These results constrain dark matter masses and Ar-10-scattering cross sections within certain ranges.

Stable Cosmic Vortons in Bosonic Field Theory

R. A. Battye et al.

Summary: This study presents stable ring solutions supported by superconducting charge and current angular momentum in gauged U(1) x U(1) field theory. The research constructs potential cosmologically relevant solutions using gradient flow for the first time, demonstrating stability to axial and nonaxial perturbations. Furthermore, there is quantitative agreement with semianalytic predictions based on the thin string approximation, validating world sheet action approaches to their formation and evolution.

Constraints on primordial black holes

Bernard Carr et al.

Summary: In this article, constraints on the fraction of the Universe that may have gone into primordial black holes (PBHs) over a range of masses are updated. The discussion covers the reasons why PBHs smaller than a certain mass threshold are constrained and the various constraints on PBHs larger than that threshold.

Magnetised quark nuggets in the atmosphere

T. Sloan et al.

Summary: A search for magnetized quark nuggets (MQN) was conducted in the Great Salt Lake (GSL) in the USA using acoustic signals from hydrophones, but no expected events were observed. This study allowed limits to be set on the flux of MQNs penetrating the Earth's atmosphere and depositing energy in the GSL. The limits obtained from this search were compared with previous searches and models for the formation of MQNs.

Comments on magnetic black holes

Juan Maldacena

Summary: Various aspects of magnetically charged black holes in the Standard Model are discussed, with the argument that electroweak symmetry may be restored in the near horizon region for a range of charges. The presence of fermions with integer magnetic charge Q leads to massless two dimensional fermions moving along magnetic field lines, significantly enhancing Hawking radiation effects.

Hairy magnetic and dyonic black holes in the Standard Model

Yang Bai et al.

Summary: This study focuses on spherically symmetric magnetic and dyonic black holes within the Standard Model and general relativity. It is found that a magnetically charged black hole with mass below 9.3 x 10^35 GeV has a cloud of electroweak gauge and Higgs fields outside the event horizon. Additionally, a hairy dyonic black hole with an integer charge may decay into a magnetic black hole plus charged fermions.

Searching for Magnetic Monopoles with Earth's Magnetic Field

Yang Bai et al.

Summary: The study presents a novel method to search for magnetic monopoles by detecting the monopole moment of Earth's magnetic field. By using over six years of public geomagnetic field data obtained by the Swarm satellites, an upper limit on the magnetic field strength at Earth's surface from magnetic monopoles has been determined.

Mapping gauged Q-balls

Julian Heeck et al.

Summary: A relation is discovered that allows one to extract the properties of gauged Q-balls from the more easily obtained properties of global Q-balls, including radius, charge, and energy. Despite the marked differences in properties between gauged Q-balls and global Q-balls, this study provides a new guide to understanding gauged Q-balls.

Astrophysical hints for magnetic black holes

Diptimoy Ghosh et al.

Summary: We discuss various potential astrophysical signatures and constraints on magnetically charged black holes of different masses, highlighting their immense electromagnetic fields and their potential as windows to fundamental physics. The investigation includes limits on charges, stable orbits, horizons, galactic magnetic fields and dark matter measurements, electromagnetic fluxes, and gravitational wave emissions during binary inspirals. The distinct features of electromagnetic emissions and gravitational waveform evolution during binary inspirals are also considered.
