The path integral of 3D gravity near extremality; or, JT gravity with defects as a matrix integral

Henry Maxfield et al.

Summary: The proposal suggests including a new class of topologies in the path integral of three-dimensional pure gravity to address negative aspects in the spectrum, leading to a nonperturbative shift of the BTZ extremality bound. A two-dimensional calculation using dimensionally reduced theory can capture the primary effects in the near extremal limit, as demonstrated through a study of a related two-dimensional theory of Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity with dynamic defects, which is shown to be equivalent to a matrix integral.

Free partition functions and an averaged holographic duality

Nima Afkhami-Jeddi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the torus partition functions of free bosonic CFTs in two dimensions, showing that integrating over Narain moduli defines an ensemble-averaged free CFT and the averaged partition function can be reinterpreted as a sum over topologies in three dimensions. This leads to the conjecture that an averaged free CFT in two dimensions is holographically dual to an exotic theory of three-dimensional gravity with U(1)(c)xU(1)(c) symmetry and a composite boundary graviton. Additionally, general constraints on the spectral gap of free CFTs are obtained for small central charge c, Narain compactifications with a large gap are constructed, and an analytic bootstrap functional corresponding to a single self-dual boson is found using the spinning modular bootstrap.

Solutions of Modular Bootstrap Constraints from Quantum Codes

Anatoly Dymarsky et al.

Summary: Modular invariance imposes strict constraints on the partition functions of CFTs, leading to fundamental results. This study establishes a connection between a family of quantum error correcting codes and code CFI's, simplifying the modular invariance of 2D CFT partition functions.

AdS3 gravity and random CFT

Jordan Cotler et al.

Summary: In this study, we computed the path integral of three-dimensional gravity on spaces with a torus times an interval topology, revealing spectral correlations between BTZ black hole microstates near threshold and the spectral form factor at fixed momentum. Our findings indicate that the low-energy limit of these correlations aligns precisely with a double-scaled random matrix ensemble with Virasoro symmetry.

Quantum stabilizer codes, lattices, and CFTs

Anatoly Dymarsky et al.

Summary: The study explores the relationship between quantum error-correcting codes and Euclidean lattices, showing that stabilizer codes are related to Lorentzian lattices and non-chiral CFTs. By analyzing the properties of code CFTs with small central charge, the study reveals interesting examples and constructs modular invariant functions satisfying basic properties of CFT partition function. The paper also considers the holographic interpretation of the ensemble average over all code theories.

Chern-Simons gravity dual of BCFT

Tadashi Takayanagi et al.

Summary: In this paper, a Chern-Simons gravity dual of a two dimensional conformal field theory on a manifold with boundaries, known as boundary conformal field theory (BCFT), is provided. The correct boundary action on the end of the world brane in the Chern-Simons gauge theory is determined, reproducing known results of the AdS/BCFT for the Einstein gravity. A prescription for calculating holographic entanglement entropy using Wilson lines extending from the AdS boundary to the end of the world brane is given, and a higher spin extension of the formulation is discussed.

Random statistics of OPE coefficients and Euclidean wormholes

Alexandre Belin et al.

Summary: The study proposes an ansatz for OPE coefficients in chaotic conformal field theories, generalizing the eigenstate thermalization hypothesis and describing heavy operators as random variables with a Gaussian distribution. By applying this ansatz in two dimensions, higher moments of OPE coefficients can be calculated and analyzed, while also relating them to genus-2 partition functions and their squares in the context of AdS(3) Einstein gravity solutions. The research suggests that calculations based on the semi-classical low-energy gravitational theory are primarily affected by the random nature of OPE coefficients, explaining the lack of factorization in partition function products.

Symmetry-resolved entanglement in AdS3/CFT2 coupled to U(1) Chern-Simons theory

Suting Zhao et al.

Summary: In this study, we explore the symmetry-resolved entanglement entropy in the context of AdS(3)/CFT2 coupled to U(1) Chern-Simons theory. By relating the generating function for the charged moments to the amount of charge in the entangling subregion, we derive that the symmetry-resolved entanglement entropy is determined by the length of the Ryu-Takayanagi geodesic and the Chern-Simons level k. The results are confirmed by calculations in the dual conformal field theory utilizing the u(1)(k) Kac-Moody symmetry.

Free energy from replica wormholes

Netta Engelhardt et al.

Summary: The text discusses the challenge of Euclidean wormholes to the standard quantum mechanical interpretation and suggests that gravitational path integral computes the ensemble average of multiple theories. It highlights the contribution of connected topologies to the free energy and evidence of replica symmetry breaking in both JT gravity and a simplified version of CGHS. The insights about ensemble averaging in gravity from this perspective are also discussed.
