Replica wormholes from Liouville theory

Shinji Hirano et al.

Summary: This paper investigates replica wormholes in JT gravity and describes their formation and mechanism using conformal field theory. The gravitational part of the bulk entanglement entropy can be reproduced through the study of twist operators and correlators.

An effective matrix model for dynamical end of the world branes in Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity

Ping Gao et al.

Summary: We study the dynamics of dynamical end of the world branes in Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity in nearly AdS(2) spacetimes. By quantizing the theory and calculating the Euclidean path integral summation over topologies, including dynamical branes, we find a perfect match with a modified SSS matrix model. Resolving UV divergences in the gravitational instantons involving branes allows for a Wilsonian effective theory interpretation of the gravitational theory. By extending the integration contour of eigenvalues into the complex plane, we complete the nonperturbative version of the modified SSS matrix model and provide a new interpretation of other phases in such matrix models. Additionally, we derive an effective W(Phi) dilaton gravity with similar semiclassical physics, where the extremal entropy of a large number of flavors of branes counts the states of these branes.

The path integral of 3D gravity near extremality; or, JT gravity with defects as a matrix integral

Henry Maxfield et al.

Summary: The proposal suggests including a new class of topologies in the path integral of three-dimensional pure gravity to address negative aspects in the spectrum, leading to a nonperturbative shift of the BTZ extremality bound. A two-dimensional calculation using dimensionally reduced theory can capture the primary effects in the near extremal limit, as demonstrated through a study of a related two-dimensional theory of Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity with dynamic defects, which is shown to be equivalent to a matrix integral.

Product of random states and spatial (half-)wormholes

Kanato Goto et al.

Summary: In this paper, we explore the emergence of geometric structures from classical correlations in the AdS/CFT setup. By selecting random states in two decoupled CFT Hilbert spaces, we demonstrate how a geometric connection can be created for simple probes. Additionally, we argue the existence of spatial half-wormholes, which resolve the factorization puzzle in a similar way as spacetime half-wormholes.

Classifying boundary conditions in JT gravity: from energy-branes to α-branes

Akash Goel et al.

Summary: By classifying and quantizing the possible boundary conditions in JT gravity, we can uncover new features related to its matrix integral interpretation, factorization properties, ensemble averaging interpretation, definition at finite cutoff, relation to near-extremal black hole physics, and role as a two-dimensional model of cosmology.

Replica wormholes for an evaporating 2D black hole

Kanato Goto et al.

Summary: This paper investigates replica wormholes for black holes formed by gravitational collapse in Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity, confirming that they lead to the island rule for entropy. The main technical challenge lies in the fact that replica wormholes rely on a Euclidean path integral, while the quantum extremal islands of an evaporating black hole exist only in Lorentzian signature.

Solving puzzles in deformed JT gravity: phase transitions and non-perturbative effects

Clifford V. Johnson et al.

Summary: Recent work has shown that certain deformations of the scalar potential in Jackiw-Teitelboim gravity can be written as double-scaled matrix models. However, some of these deformations exhibit a breakdown of unitarity with negative spectral density. The source of the problem lies in the presence of a multi-valued solution of the leading order matrix model string equation, which leads to perturbative and non-perturbative inconsistencies in the theory.

Capacity of entanglement in random pure state

Kazumi Okuyama

Summary: The study computes the capacity of entanglement in the bipartite random pure state model using the replica method, finding the exact expression valid for a finite dimension of the Hilbert space, and argues that the capacity of entanglement in the gravitational path integral mainly comes from contributions of sub-leading saddle points corresponding to partially connected geometries.

The entropy of Hawking radiation

Ahmed Almheiri et al.

Summary: This review discusses recent progress on the black hole information problem, focusing on a new understanding of calculating the entropy of Hawking radiation. It shows how the method for computing gravitational fine-grained entropy can be extended to account for the entropy of Hawking radiation, revealing significant corrections needed for consistency with unitary black hole evaporation.

FZZT branes in JT gravity and topological gravity

Kazumi Okuyama et al.

Summary: The study focuses on Fateev-Zamolodchikov-Zamolodchikov-Teschner (FZZT) branes in Witten-Kontsevich topological gravity, which involves the addition of determinant operators in the dual matrix integral to shift the many couplings of topological gravity. The perturbative interpretation of adding FZZT branes in the genus expansion of topological gravity is clarified in terms of a simple boundary factor and the generalized Weil-Petersson volumes. Additionally, a non-perturbative formulation of FZZT branes is presented, along with a closed expression for the general correlation function of multiple FZZT branes and multiple macroscopic loops.
