Two more fermionic minimal models

Justin Kulp

Summary: In this short note, the authors discuss the existence of two additional fermionic unitary minimal models not covered in recent work. These models are obtained by fermionizing the Z(2) symmetry of the m = 11 and m = 12 exceptional unitary minimal models. The explanation provided clarifies why these are the only missing cases.

Symmetries of abelian Chern-Simons theories and arithmetic

Diego Delmastro et al.

Summary: This study determines the unitary and anti-unitary Lagrangian and quantum symmetries of arbitrary abelian Chern-Simons theories, revealing their sensitivity to the arithmetic properties of the Chern-Simons levels matrix and interesting connections with number theory. The research provides a complete characterization of the symmetries of abelian topological field theories and discovers many non-trivially time-reversal invariant theories through a quantum symmetry. Additionally, it identifies various non-abelian finite symmetry groups.

A (dummy's) guide to working with gapped boundaries via (fermion) condensation

Jiaqi Lou et al.

Summary: The study focuses on gapped boundaries characterized by fermionic condensates in 2+1d topological order. Excitation species at the gapped boundary/junctions, endomorphisms, fusion rules, and a twisted version of the defect Verlinde formula are systematically obtained and illustrated with explicit examples. The results are connected with topological defects in super modular invariant CFTs, and a pedagogical review is provided to assist physicists without prior experience in tensor category.

Classification of Metaplectic Fusion Categories

Eddy Ardonne et al.

Summary: This paper explores a family of fusion and modular systems that realize fusion categories Grothendieck equivalent to the representation category for so(2p + 1)(2), describing non-abelian anyons known as 'metaplectic anyons'. The study provides explicit expressions for all F- and R-symbols, and based on this, conjectures a classification for their monoidal equivalence classes through analysis of their gauge invariants and the introduction of a function to determine the number of classes.

Fermionic Minimal Models

Chang-Tse Hsieh et al.

Summary: We demonstrated the existence of a fermionic minimal model for each c = 1-6/m(m + 1), m >= 3, containing half-integral spin operators in its spectrum. This generalization extends to the Majorana fermion for c = 1/2, m = 3 and the smallest N = 1 supersymmetric minimal model for c = 7/10, m = 4. We also provided explicit Hamiltonians on Majorana chains to realize these fermionic minimal models.

Domain walls in 4dN=1 SYM

Diego Delmastro et al.

Summary: 4dN = 1 super Yang-Mills theory with simply connected gauge group G has multiple gapped vacua and stable domain walls connecting them, supporting specific topological quantum field theories. Matching UV and IR partition functions provides evidence for the domain wall theories proposed.

The algebra of anomaly interplay

Joe Davighi et al.

Summary: We provide a general description of the interplay between local and global anomalies, encoded in non-canonical splitting of short exact sequences classifying invertible field theories. Various examples of this phenomenon in different dimensions are studied, as well as a rigorous bordism-based version of an old method for calculating global anomalies.

Reflection positivity and invertible topological phases

Daniel S. Freed et al.

Summary: This work implements an extended version of reflection positivity for invertible topological quantum field theories, computes the abelian group of deformation classes using stable homotopy theory, and provides a general formula for symmetry protected topological phases in lattice systems based on field theory considerations. The only inputs required are dimension and symmetry type. Additionally, computations for fermionic systems in physically relevant dimensions are presented, along with discussions on symmetry in quantum field theories and the homotopy theory of relativistic free fermions.

Boundary Supersymmetry of (1+1)D Fermionic Symmetry-Protected Topological Phases

Abhishodh Prakash et al.

Summary: It has been proven that the boundaries of all nontrivial (1 + 1)-dimensional intrinsically fermionic symmetry-protected-topological phases, protected by finite on-site symmetries (unitary or antiunitary), are supersymmetric quantum mechanical systems. This supersymmetry arises as a consequence of the boundary 't Hooft anomaly that classifies the phase, and is distinct from other well-known degeneracies such as Kramers doublets.

Supersymmetric Boundaries of One-Dimensional Phases of Fermions beyond Symmetry-Protected Topological States

Alex Turzillo et al.

Summary: This study investigates the boundary supersymmetry of one-dimensional fermionic phases beyond SPT phases, calculating the number of protected boundary supercharges based on bulk phase invariants. Using the connection between Majorana edge modes and real supercharges, the researchers were able to derive this information.

Anomaly constraint on chiral central charge of (2+1)d topological order

Ryohei Kobayashi

Summary: In this short paper, it is argued that the chiral central charge c_ of a (2 + 1)d topological ordered state may be strongly constrained by the 't Hooft anomaly of antiunitary global symmetry. Specifically, for a fermionic topological quantum field theory with time-reversal anomaly, the value of c_ is restricted by certain modulo conditions. Additionally, similar constraints are studied for fermionic TQFTs with U(1) x CT symmetry.

Unwinding fermionic symmetry-protected topological phases: Supersymmetry extension

Abhishodh Prakash et al.

Summary: The paper demonstrates how 1+1-dimensional fermionic symmetry-protected topological states can be unwound to a trivial state by enlarging the Hilbert space and extending global symmetries. It also discusses specific examples such as multilayers of Majorana fermion chains, models with SYK interactions, and fermionic gapless SPTs protected by supersymmetry, as well as generalizations to higher space-time dimensions through cobordism theory.
