Efficient Transformation of Somatic Embryos and Regeneration of Cork Oak Plantlets with a Gene (CsTL1) Encoding a Chestnut Thaumatin-Like Protein

Vanesa Cano et al.

Summary: This study presented a reproducible procedure for transforming somatic embryos of cork oak with the CsTL1 gene to confer tolerance to Phytophthora cinnamomi. Different concentrations of antibiotics were tested, and the transformation efficiency was found to be genotype-dependent. The antifungal activity of the gene CsTL1 was evaluated in vitro, and plantlet survival was correlated with the expression of the CsTL1 gene.

Exogenous Gene Expression and Insect Resistance in Dual Bt Toxin Populus x euramericana 'Neva' Transgenic Plants

Yachao Ren et al.

Summary: In this study, Cry1Ac and Cry3A Bt toxin genes were simultaneously transformed into the poplar variety 'Neva' to develop insect resistance. Sixteen transgenic lines expressing both genes were obtained, some of which showed high resistance to certain pests. The results provide a theoretical foundation for developing poplar resistance to Anoplophora glabripennis and understanding the mechanism of Bt toxin action on Cerambycidae insects.
