Luminescence imaging of leaf damage induced by lipid peroxidation products and its modulation by β-cyclocitral

Marek Rac et al.

Summary: Lipid peroxidation is a primary event associated with oxidative stress in plants, generating harmful compounds such as reactive carbonyl species. Exogenous secondary lipid oxidation products can damage leaves and trigger detoxification pathways in Arabidopsis plants.

Wounding-Induced VOC Emissions in Five Tropical Agricultural Species

Miguel Portillo-Estrada et al.

Summary: Leaf mechanical wounding triggers a rapid release of volatile organic compounds, mainly composed of oxygenated stress volatiles and lipoxygenase products, along with minor VOCs that induce defenses in non-damaged plant leaves and neighbouring plants. There is variability in the rate and magnitude of induced emissions among tropical agricultural plant species, with higher emissions in physiologically more active species not fully supported.

Catechins in green tea powder (matcha) are heat-stable scavengers of acrolein, a lipid peroxide-derived reactive carbonyl species

Koichi Sugimoto et al.

Summary: This study investigated the scavenging reactions of tea catechins on lipid peroxidation-derived reactive carbonyl species, demonstrating the formation of acrolein conjugates of catechins in baked cake and green tea powder extract. Adding matcha tea powder to cake dough significantly suppressed the accumulation of RCS during baking, highlighting the potential of matcha as a food additive.

The Influence of Abiotic Stress Factors on the Morphophysiological and Phytochemical Aspects of the Acclimation of the Plant Rhodiola semenowii Boriss

Nina Terletskaya et al.

Summary: This study explored the morphophysiological, anatomical, and phytochemical responses of immature Rhodiolla semenovii plants to water deficit and cold-stress conditions. It found changes in biomass production, decreased efficiency of the photosynthetic apparatus under stress, anatomical modulations in roots and shoots under stress, and specific phytochemical changes induced by the stressors. The research highlights the potential for using abiotic stressors to synthesize bioactive secondary metabolites for pharmaceutical use.
