Overexpression of A Biotic Stress-Inducible Pvgstu Gene Activates Early Protective Responses in Tobacco under Combined Heat and Drought

Evangelia Stavridou et al.

Summary: Drought and heat stresses have a significant impact on crop growth and productivity, with plant glutathione transferases (GSTs) playing a crucial role in conferring tolerance to abiotic stresses. Overexpression of Pvgstu3-3 in tobacco plants has been shown to enhance thermotolerance and overall performance under combined stress conditions. The transgenic plants exhibited significant changes in primary metabolism and activation of protective mechanisms in response to combined stresses, indicating a primed state for enhanced protection.
