Introgression of qDTY1.1 Governing Reproductive Stage Drought Tolerance into an Elite Basmati Rice Variety Pusa Basmati 1 through Marker Assisted Backcross Breeding

Gaurav Dhawan et al.

Summary: This study successfully improved a Basmati rice variety for tolerance to reproductive stage drought stress by introgressing the QTL qDTY1.1 from the aus variety Nagina 22. After three backcrosses and five generations of selfing, 18 near isogenic lines (NILs) were developed, showing promising agronomic and grain quality traits.

Drought Tolerant near Isogenic Lines (NILs) of Pusa 44 Developed through Marker Assisted Introgression of qDTY2.1 and qDTY3.1 Enhances Yield under Reproductive Stage Drought Stress

Priyanka Dwivedi et al.

Summary: Reproductive stage drought stress (RSDS) negatively impacts rice productivity and grain quality. Through marker-assisted backcross breeding, two major quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were introgressed into Pusa 44 rice cultivar to enhance RSDS tolerance. The resulting NILs showed superior performance under RSDS compared to Pusa 44, with two promising NILs outperforming Pusa 44 in multilocational trials.
