Antibiogram, Virulence Genes, and Biofilm-Forming Ability of Clinical Salmonella enterica Serovars: An In Vitro Study

Dhiraj Krishna et al.

Summary: The study focused on the biofilm formation, antibiotic susceptibility, and virulence genes of Salmonella enterica serovars Typhi and Paratyphi, which are causative agents of enteric fever. The results demonstrated variable biofilm formation and antibiotic resistance patterns among the isolates. Presence of invA and spvC genes indicated their ability of invasiveness and intracellular survival.

Virulence genes identification and characterization revealed the presence of the Yersinia High Pathogenicity Island (HPI) in Salmonella from Brazil

Anamaria M. P. Dos Santos et al.

Summary: This study conducted an in silico investigation of 129 virulence genes, including plasmidial and bacteriophage genes, from 1077 Salmonella genomes isolated in Brazil, identifying four most prevalent serovars and proposing mgtC, csgC, ssaI, and ssaS genes as additional targets for PCR identification. The analysis provided insights into the distribution of Salmonella virulence genes in Brazil and showed a decreasing trend in plasmids and bacteriophages virulence genes between the 2000s and 2010s, with the exception of the phage gene grvA.
