Human click-based echolocation: Effects of blindness and age, and real-life implications in a 10-week training program

Liam J. Norman et al.

Summary: The study found that age and blindness do not significantly impact the ability to learn click-based echolocation, with participants showing substantial improvement during training. In some cases, younger sighted individuals performed better than blind individuals, but neither age nor level of vision greatly affected the rate of learning or application of skills. Blind participants reported improved mobility and increased independence and wellbeing in their daily lives.
