The coupling reaction of α-silylamines with Baylis-Hillman adducts by visible light photoredox catalysis

He Zhao et al.

Summary: The preparation of N-containing alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxylate derivatives from alpha-silylamine and Baylis-Hillman adducts under visible light irradiation was reported. The formation of alpha-aminoalkyl radical is regioselective compared with the previous reports. The reaction was successfully performed without additional additives under mild conditions.

A facile access for multisubstituted trifluoromethyl olefins by visible light catalysis

Shujian Ren et al.

Summary: A green approach for highly substituted trifluoromethyl olefins has been developed using alkyl boronic acid as a carbon radical precursor and BMTBHA as an acceptor, under visible light irradiation. The method initiates from 1,1-disubstituted olefins without the need for an external stoichiometric oxidant.

Facile dehydration of primary amides to nitriles catalyzed by lead salts: The anionic ligand matters

Shixiang Ruan et al.

Summary: The study successfully achieved the synthesis of nitrile from primary amide under mild conditions using lead salts as catalyst. The reaction processes were intensified by adding surfactant and continuously removing water, leading to moderate to excellent yields of both aliphatic and aromatic nitriles. The reaction mechanisms were elucidated through high-level quantum chemical calculations, revealing the crucial role of anionic ligand in the transformations.

Enantioselective Radical SN2-Type Alkylation of Morita-Baylis-Hillman Adducts Using Dual Photoredox/Palladium Catalysis

Xiangbin Bai et al.

Summary: This study presents an enantioselective radical alkylation of 4-alkyl-1,4-dihydropyridines with Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) adducts using dual photoredox/palladium catalysis, yielding products with good yields and enantioselectivity. The use of Ding's spiroketal-based bis-(phosphine) (SKP) ligand is crucial for achieving satisfactory regio- and enantioselectivity in this reaction. The resulting alpha,beta-unsaturated ester can be easily reduced to a synthetically useful chiral allyl alcohol.

The decarboxylation coupling reaction of α-keto acid with Baylis-Hillman carbonates by visible light photoredox catalysis

He Zhao et al.

Summary: The acylation of Baylis-Hillman carbonates using visible light catalysis is achieved by producing acyl radicals through the decarboxylation of alpha-keto acids. This method offers mild conditions, broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and moderate to good yields, providing a new route for acylation of Baylis-Hillman derivatives.

Synergistic photoredox and tertiary amine catalysis: generation of allylic sulfones from Morita-Baylis-Hillman acetates and sulfur dioxide

Xinhua Wang et al.

Summary: A novel synthesis method using synergistic photoredox and tertiary amine catalysis was reported in this study, which allows for the facile preparation of a wide range of allylic sulfones in moderate to excellent yields. Mechanistic studies revealed the importance of the synergistic catalysis for the successful conversion with the insertion of sulfur dioxide.
