Full-Color Holographic Display and Encryption with Full-Polarization Degree of Freedom

Xuyue Guo et al.

Summary: Metasurfaces provide a compact and powerful platform for manipulating light, with the capability of full-color holography encoded with arbitrary polarization. Applications such as holographic 3D imaging and information encryption are realized through the full degree of freedom tuning in polarization and color spaces. The strategy exhibits promising potential in applications of 3D display, augmented/virtual reality, high-density data storage, and encryption.

Peculiar polarization response in chiral liquid crystal stacks for multispectral camouflage

Ziqian He et al.

Summary: Chiral liquid crystals exhibit unique optical properties when stacked in even-number left- and right-handed configurations, with a focus on linear polarization response. Under specific conditions, linearly polarized incident light can result in linearly polarized reflected light. A novel concept of wavelength-response camouflage and anti-counterfeiting is proposed based on the distinct polarization responses observed in thick and thin chiral liquid crystal layers.

Tunable strongly coupled superconductivity in magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene

Jeong Min Park et al.

Summary: Moire superlattices have become a platform for studying correlated physics and superconductivity with unprecedented tunability. This study on magic-angle twisted trilayer graphene reveals a better tunability of electronic structure and superconducting properties than magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene, with implications for the understanding of strongly coupled superconductivity. The results suggest that the system can be electrically tuned close to the crossover to a two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensate, indicating the potential for revolutionizing applications of superconductivity.

Mechano-tunable chiral metasurfaces via colloidal assembly

Patrick T. Probst et al.

Summary: This study introduces a scalable bottom-up approach to construct cross-stacked nanoparticle chain arrays with a circular dichroism of up to 11 degrees, showing enhanced sensitivity to chiral analytes. The research demonstrates full control over circular dichroism characteristics and opens up a new pathway towards actively controlled pixel arrays through strain-induced reconfiguration. Stacked elastomeric arrays containing plasmonic nanoparticles exhibit efficient chiral responses that can be fully controlled by mechanical compression and stack rotation, showcasing potential as useful modulators for photonic applications.

Toward the capacity limit of 2D planar Jones matrix with a single-layer metasurface

Yanjun Bao et al.

Summary: By proposing a new metasurface design strategy, we constructed a Jones matrix with six degrees of freedom, enabling various polarization functionalities that can only be achieved with high degrees of freedom. This provides a platform for designing arbitrary complex polarization elements and broadens the application of polarization optics.

Near-Infrared Light-Triggered Enantioselective Photopolymerization of Polydiacetylene Films Assisted by Ag and NaYF4 Nanoparticles

Yifan Xie et al.

Summary: The study presents an example of near-infrared light-triggered enantioselective photopolymerization reactions using NaYF4 nanophosphors and chiral silver nanoparticles, resulting in a polydiacetylene film with high optical activity and chiral fluorescence. The manipulation of optical activity allows for easy control of the preferred screw direction of helical PDA chains. The proposed explanation is based on the electromagnetic field enhancement effect, which suggests that both enantioselectivity and reactivity benefit from resonance between upconverted emission and enhanced electromagnetic field near chiral AgNPs.
