A rechargeable zinc-air battery based on zinc peroxide chemistry

Wei Sun et al.

Summary: The study presents a zinc-O-2/zinc peroxide chemistry that operates through a 2e(-)/O-2 process in nonalkaline aqueous electrolytes, allowing highly reversible redox reactions in zinc-air batteries. This innovative ZnO2 chemistry, enabled by water-poor and zinc ion (Zn2+)-rich inner Helmholtz layer, shows superior reversibility and stability compared to alkaline zinc-air batteries.

Synthesis and characterization of ZnO-based nano-powders: study of the effect of sintering temperature on the performance of ZnO-Bi2O3 varistors

Amal Boumezoued et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the improvement of varistor devices using a ZnO-based material through the synthesis of pure and 1% Bi-doped ZnO nano-powders at different sintering temperatures. Characterizations by XRD and TEM show good nonohmic behavior and the formation of Shottky barriers at grain boundaries, indicating potential for improving surge arrester protection in power and network systems.

Rechargeable Na/Cl2 and Li/Cl2 batteries

Guanzhou Zhu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the production of rechargeable Na/Cl-2 and Li/Cl-2 batteries with a microporous carbon positive electrode, aluminium chloride in thionyl chloride as the electrolyte, and either sodium or lithium as the negative electrode. The reversible Cl-2/NaCl or Cl-2/LiCl redox in the microporous carbon allows for rechargeability at the positive electrode side, while the thin alkali-fluoride-doped alkali-chloride solid electrolyte interface stabilizes the negative electrode, both of which are critical for secondary alkali-metal/Cl-2 batteries.

Li-ion storage properties of two-dimensional titanium-carbide synthesized via fast one-pot method in air atmosphere

Guoliang Ma et al.

Summary: Structural bidimensional transition-metal carbides and/or nitrides (MXenes) have attracted attention in the material science research community for their unique physical-chemical properties. This study presents a method for cost-effective synthesis of MXenes using elemental precursors in a molten salt pot, allowing for MXene synthesis in an air environment without inert gas protection. Furthermore, the MXenes synthesized exhibit promising lithium-ion storage properties.
