Towards a model of wet deposition of bioaerosols: The raindrop size role

Carlos Blanco-Alegre et al.

Summary: Bioaerosols play a significant role in plant growth and human health, with rainfall shown to effectively scavenge pollen concentrations, especially for Castanea and Cupressaceae pollens. 71% of rain events exhibit effective scavenging of pollen, demonstrating the potential for real-time estimation of pollen concentrations based on initial levels and rainfall parameters.

Determining the potential impacts of fire and different land uses on splash erosion in the margins of drylands

Maria Fernandez-Raga et al.

Summary: This research estimated splash erosion in specific land uses after a forest fire in Congosto, Spain. The study found that soil losses were highest in burned areas, with bare soil and slow vegetation recovery rate being key factors. Ecosystem restoration post-fire is crucial, especially in dryland margins severely affected by fire.

A new approach to kinetic energy calculation of two-phase soil splashed material

M. Beczek et al.

Summary: This study aims to present an improved method for calculating the kinetic energy of splashed material by measuring key parameters that influence particles' energy. Various methodologies were used to obtain data on the ejected particles, including their mass, velocity, and density. Three variants of kinetic energy calculation were tested, with the results showing that the total kinetic energy of splashed particles ranged between 4.6% and 7.4% of the kinetic energy of the impacting water drop.

Characteristics of Rain-Induced Attenuation over Signal Links at Frequency Ranges of 25 and 38 GHz Observed in Beijing

Congzheng Han et al.

Summary: Wireless communication has become a vital part of our daily lives, and meteorological factors can significantly impact communication quality, especially at high frequencies. This paper conducted field measurements at 25 GHz and 38 GHz to study the effects of atmospheric conditions on millimeter-wave transmissions. By deriving the relationship between rain-induced attenuation and rainfall rate using local rain drop size distribution information, the improved model showed better estimation accuracy compared to international standards.

Effectiveness of a New Drainage System for Decreasing Erosion in Road Hillslopes

Maria Fernandez-Raga et al.

Summary: A new drainage system called 'branched' is proposed in this study, which shows lower speed, energy, and force compared to the traditional system, as well as longer service life. Despite the higher initial construction cost, the maintenance cost of the new system is lower than the traditional one, making it profitable from the eighth year of construction and saving on road maintenance costs in the following 15 years.
