A data-independent acquisition approach based on HRMS to explore the biodegradation process of organic micropollutants involved in a biological ion-exchange drinking water filter

Morgan Solliec et al.

Summary: Drinking water producers are developing innovative treatment processes to remove organic micropollutants from raw water more effectively. A new method called Biological ion-exchange (BIEX) water treatment is showing great potential. By using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS), researchers were able to monitor the degradation of three spiked organic micropollutants in culture and identify 11 transformation products related to the spiked compounds. The 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing also revealed the presence of bacterial genera known for their ability to degrade the spiked micropollutants in the microbial community of the BIEX drinking water filter.

A review of water quality index models and their use for assessing surface water quality

Md. Galal Uddin et al.

Summary: The water quality index (WQI) model is a popular tool for evaluating surface water quality, converting extensive data into a single index. While commonly used, the model faces issues such as specificity to regional guidelines and uncertainty in data conversion. This paper compares commonly used WQI models and discusses issues affecting model accuracy.

A stage-based approach to allocating water quality monitoring stations based on the WorldQual model: The Jubba River as a case study

Miguel A. Vega-Rodriguez et al.

Summary: Ensuring adequate freshwater quality is crucial for integrated environmental management and sustainable development. A stage-based optimization approach, utilizing pollutant estimates and other criteria, helps allocate monitoring stations effectively without the need for in situ pollution measurements. This approach is beneficial for developing countries in prioritizing network distributions for river basins.

Correlation of various water quality parameters and water quality index of districts of Uttarakhand

Vinod Kothari et al.

Summary: This study assessed the water quality of rural areas in Garhwal and Kumaon districts of Uttarakhand, India, based on hydrogeochemical and biological parameters, as well as calculation of Water Quality Index (WQI). The physicochemical properties met standards for drinking purposes, but bacteriological parameters in some samples exceeded permissible limits. Statistical analysis revealed significant relationships between different water quality parameters, with TDS showing the highest correlation with conductivity, sulphate, and chloride ion concentration.
