Modeling Transport and Adsorption of Arsenic Ions in Iron-Oxide Laden Porous Media. Part I: Theoretical Developments

Krishna Pillai et al.

Summary: The process of transport and trapping of arsenic ions in porous water filters is treated as a classic mass transport problem, with modeling conducted using the convection-diffusion equation at the pore scale. The upscaling reveals two possible forms of macroscopic equations for predicting arsenic concentrations in the filters, with the introduction of an additional transport coefficient known as the adsorption-induced vector being a key finding. This theoretical effort represents the first detailed micro-macro coupling in modeling the transport of arsenic species in water filters.

Experimental and Numerical Study of Biochar Fixed Bed Column for the Adsorption of Arsenic from Aqueous Solutions

Maria Rosaria Boni et al.

Summary: The study conducted two laboratory tests to verify the suitability of Italian commercial biochar as an adsorbing material for arsenic in groundwater. While the results aligned with previous literature, they also showed that using a large amount of biochar does not necessarily improve efficiency. Additionally, factors such as the origin and grain size of the biochar can affect the efficiency of adsorption.
