Summary: The study found that rice consumption is a major dietary source of cadmium which poses a potential threat to human health. Fe and Cd application can influence the yield and yield components of rice plants, as well as the dynamics of Cd in pore water and human health risks. Fe application was shown to reduce Cd levels and human health risks from rice consumption, especially in the Fe 2.0 treatment.

Translocation of Soil Arsenic towards Accumulation in Rice: Magnitude of Water Management to Minimize Health Risk

Summary: The study found that soil arsenic pollution reduced rice yield, while using AWD water management significantly improved growth performance and productivity of rice. Higher soil arsenic concentrations led to increased arsenic content in rice grain and straw, but AWD treatment significantly reduced the arsenic content. Therefore, rice farming with AWD irrigation could be a viable and long-term solution for reducing arsenic contamination in rice and associated human health hazards.

Spatial Distribution and Ecological Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in Sediments of a Heavily Polluted Maozhou River, Southern China

Summary: The study revealed that heavy metal concentrations in Maozhou River sediments were significantly higher than soil backgrounds in Guangdong Province and Chinese lacustrine sediments. The correlations between Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, and Pb contents were significant. Maozhou River exhibited higher ecological risk compared to other rivers in Guangdong Province, especially for Cu, Cd, and Ni. The variation pattern of potential ecological risk index was similar to that of heavy metals, indicating high ecological risk in Maozhou River sediments.
