Local sea level trends, accelerations and uncertainties over 1993-2019

Pierre Prandi et al.

Summary: Satellite altimetry missions offer a quasi-global synoptic view of sea level variations over more than 25 years, providing regional sea level indicators such as trends and accelerations. This study estimates local sea level trend and acceleration uncertainties, deriving local error variance-covariance matrices and confidence intervals. The average local sea level trend uncertainty is found to be 0.83 mm/yr, with values ranging from 0.78 to 1.22 mm/yr, while for accelerations, uncertainties range from 0.057 to 0.12 mm/yr.

Influence of interannual variability in estimating the rate and acceleration of present-day global mean sea level

Lorena Moreira et al.

Summary: Recent studies indicate that the global mean sea level is accelerating, but there is influence from interannual variability. By calculating the global mean sea level rate at different time scales, significant interannual fluctuations are observed. Despite efforts to remove interannual variability, a 6-7 year cycle still remains in the sea level rate.

Contributions of Altimetry and Argo to Non-Closure of the Global Mean Sea Level Budget Since 2016

Anne Barnoud et al.

Summary: Studies have shown that the global mean sea level (GMSL) budget was closed within uncertainties from 1993-2016, but non-closure was observed after 2016 with data from Jason-3, Argo, and GRACE/GRACE Follow-On. Errors in data sets used for estimating GMSL and its components may have contributed to this non-closure.
