Evaluation of polarimetry and interferometry of sentinel-1A SAR data for land use and land cover of the Brazilian Amazon Region

Summary: This study evaluates the potential of Sentinel-1A attributes for mapping land use and land cover (LULC) in the Brazilian Amazon region using Random Forest (RF) and Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifiers. The RF has shown superiority over the SVM in almost all scenarios for the two phases of mapping, and using all data presented the best results with both classifiers. The final maps achieved a global accuracy of 82.7% with RF and 74.5% with SVM, demonstrating the potential of Sentinel-1 for LULC mapping in the Amazon region through a two-phase classification.
