Electrical properties of 3D printed continuous carbon fibre composites made using the FDM process

Joel Galos et al.

Summary: The study investigates the electrical conductivity of continuous carbon fiber-nylon filaments and laminates printed with an FDM machine. While the longitudinal conductivity of the 3D printed laminate is lower than that of a hot molded composite due to fiber breakages caused by the FDM process, the transverse and through-thickness electrical conductivities are higher due to increased fiber-to-fiber contact.

Investigation of Carbon Nanotube Grafted Graphene Oxide Hybrid Aerogel for Polystyrene Composites with Reinforced Mechanical Performance

Yanzeng Sun et al.

Summary: A novel approach was developed for preparing large-scale 3D carbon nanotubes and graphene oxide aerogel by directly grafting CNTs onto GO, followed by backfilling styrene and polymerization to form nanocomposites. The XPS and Raman spectroscopy results confirmed the successful establishment of CNTs and GO-CNT in the aerogel. The nanocomposites exhibited excellent thermal conductivity and significantly enhanced mechanical properties compared to pristine PS, providing a new route for large-scale production.

Electrical Properties and Strain Sensing Mechanisms in Hybrid Graphene Nanoplatelet/Carbon Nanotube Nanocomposites

Xoan F. Sanchez-Romate et al.

Summary: The electrical and electromechanical properties of hybrid graphene nanoplatelet (GNP)/carbon nanotube (CNT)-reinforced composites were analyzed under two different sonication conditions. The electrical conductivity increases with increasing nanofiller content, while the optimal sonication time decreases in a low viscosity medium. Samples with a higher GNP/CNT ratio show a higher prevalence of GNPs, with an exponential behavior of electrical resistance with applied strain and gauge factors reaching around 10.

An Investigation to Study the Effect of Process Parameters on the Strength and Fatigue Behavior of 3D-Printed PLA-Graphene

Anouar El Magri et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the fatigue behavior and damage analysis of 3D-printed PLA-Graphene specimens, analyzing the combined effect of process parameters, loading amplitude, and frequency. The experimental results show that fatigue lifetime depends on process parameters, loading amplitude, and frequency, and the thermal-mechanical coupling effect at 80 Hz decreases fatigue lifetime.
