Effect of locking mode on mechanical properties and failure behavior of CFRP/Al electromagnetic riveted joint

Hao Jiang et al.

Summary: This study investigated three ways of joining CFRP and Al sheets using EMR, and studied the deformation characteristics, mechanical properties, and failure behavior of the joints in different locking modes. The results indicated that the locking mode and discharge energy significantly affected the performance of the joint, and each joint had its own characteristics, providing guidance for selecting the appropriate locking mode based on actual requirements.

Resistance and ductility of FRP composite hybrid joints

Lulu Liu et al.

Summary: An experimental investigation was conducted on the load-bearing behavior and ductility of FRP hybrid double-lap joints composed of both adhesively-bonded and bolted connection parts. The hybrid joints with flexible adhesive showed improved ultimate failure loads without compromising deformation capacity. Joints with multidirectional adherends and flexible adhesive exhibited high joint efficiencies and excellent ductility, potentially increasing the overall safety of engineering structures composed of brittle FRP members.

An experimental study on the mechanical behaviour of bonded and hybrid bonded-bolted composite joints using digital image correlation (DIC) technique

JiHyun Kim et al.

Summary: The study applied 2D Digital Image Correlation (2D-DIC) technique to investigate the mechanical behavior of hybrid bonded-bolted (HBB) joints under quasi-static tensile loading. The strain fields around bolts in HBB joints and around open holes in bonded joints were accurately compared, and the DIC technique effectively identified the onset of failure during tests. The advantages and disadvantages of DIC technique compared to classical techniques for characterizing composite joints were briefly explained.

Mechanical Properties of Protective Coatings against Marine Fouling: A Review

Alessandro Pistone et al.

Summary: The accumulation of marine organisms on ship hulls poses a global problem for maritime industries, with the use of biocide-containing paints threatening marine ecosystems. The focus is shifting towards non-biocidal solutions in protective coatings, particularly in developing hydrophobic coatings based on siloxane and epoxy resin for anti-fouling applications, with an emphasis on environmentally friendly and cost-effective solutions.

Research in failure behaviors of hybrid single lap aluminum-CFRP (plain woven) joints

Hanyu Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper systematically studied the failure behaviors of the hybrid joint of plain woven carbon fiber reinforced plastic and aluminum alloy, highlighting the three-stage feature of HJ failure and its superior strength and energy absorption compared to bonded joints and riveted joints. A refined simulation model successfully replicated the three-stage feature and shed new light on the failure mechanisms and mechanical properties of HJs, providing valuable guidance for design and manufacture.

Experimental study of nanocomposite hybrid adhesive-rivet joints

Nabard Habibi et al.

Summary: The versatile application of rivets extends from manufacturing aircraft fuselages to various industrial sectors. Structural adhesives have advantages over other joining methods such as bolting, riveting, and welding in aerospace and automotive industries. The efficiency of hybrid joints for nanocomposite plates relies on adhesive selection and the appropriate number of rivets.

A parametric study on static behavior and load sharing of multi-bolt hybrid bonded/bolted composite joints

Valentin S. Romanov et al.

Summary: The combination of bonding and bolting in a hybrid joint can result in a stronger and more durable joint. The overlap length of the joint significantly influences its strength, while the positioning of the bolts has a less pronounced impact. Joint stiffness is mainly governed by the overlap length, and load sharing between adhesive and bolts is geometry-dependent.

Shelf Life and Storage Conditions of Universal Adhesives: A Literature Review

Georgi Iliev et al.

Summary: Universal adhesive systems show great potential for development, but careful handling and storage are crucial for success, with attention to details such as shelf-life and storage conditions. The components of universal adhesives play a significant role in their stability, and formulations without HEMA may lead to longer shelf-life. Further research is needed to validate these hypotheses.
