Test on mechanical behavior of pultruded concrete-filled GFRP tubular short columns after elevated temperatures

Zhan Guo et al.

Summary: This paper presents an experimental investigation on the mechanical behavior of pultruded concrete-filled GFRP tubular short columns exposed to elevated temperatures, showing that elevated temperatures significantly decrease the ultimate strength and initial stiffness of specimens while enhancing ductility. Elevated temperature has the most significant impact on the ultimate strength, while GFRP tube thickness and concrete compressive strength also play important roles in influencing specimen performance, and the effect of temperature duration is almost negligible.

The effects of elevated temperatures on the performance of concrete-filled pultruded GFRP tubular columns

Mojtaba Tabatabaeian et al.

Summary: The study examined the compressive and bond behavior of concrete-filled GFRP tubes under different core strengths, temperatures, and exposure times. The results indicated that exposed columns at high temperatures had decreased load-bearing capacity, with pultruded GFRP tubes supporting a portion of the total capacity, and exposure time having insignificant impact on the ultimate axial strain.

Full-range behavior of FRP-to-concrete bonded joints subjected to combined effects of loading and temperature variation

Dong-Ge Jia et al.

Summary: Concrete structures strengthened with externally bonded fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites are likely to experience significant temperature variations due to daily and seasonal temperature changes or possible fire exposure during service life. This paper presents an analytical study for the first time to predict the full-range deformation behavior of a mechanically loaded FRP-to-concrete bonded joint with a limited bond length under temperature variations. The closed-form analytical solution has enabled isolation of the interfacial thermal stress effect from the temperature-induced changes of material properties, thereby leading to an accurate calibration of the bond-slip characteristics and the interfacial fracture energy.

Compressive behavior of heat-damaged square concrete prisms confined with basalt fiber-reinforced polymer jackets

Jiang Song et al.

Summary: Research has been conducted on the compressive behavior of heat-damaged square concrete prisms confined by basalt fiber-reinforced polymer (BFRP) jackets, showing that external confinement is effective in enhancing the strength and deformation capacities of heat-damaged concrete. The strength and ultimate axial strains of the BFRP-confined heat-damaged square concrete prisms improved with increasing exposure temperature or number of BFRP jacket layers. The study also modified concrete confinement models to predict the compressive behavior of BFRP-confined heat-damaged concrete with a square cross-section.
