An Overview of the Photocatalytic Water Splitting over Suspended Particles

Muhammad Amtiaz Nadeem et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the basic concepts and synthetic methods of utilizing particulate semiconductor catalysts for water splitting to produce hydrogen, focusing on the role of co-catalysts and improving light absorption. It also discusses reactor design, overall technology costs, the potential for commercial-scale deployment of different technologies, and the significant challenges ahead. The highest reported efficiency of these systems to date is at least one order of magnitude lower than what is suitable for practical applications.

Photocatalytic pathway on the degradation of methylene blue from aqueous solutions using magnetite nanoparticles

Thays de Oliveira Guidolin et al.

Summary: Magnetite nanoparticles synthesized by the sol-gel citrate-nitrate method were used for the degradation of methylene blue in a simulated aqueous solution. Experimental design and statistical analysis determined that nanoparticle concentration was the most significant parameter, with the highest concentration experiment achieving the most effective degradation in 210 minutes. Time-depended photodegradation was monitored, showing the excellent performance of the photocatalytic system.

Direct Z-scheme TiO2-ZnIn2S4 nanoflowers for cocatalyst-free photocatalytic water splitting

Gancheng Zuo et al.

Summary: Constructing direct Z-scheme heterojunction (DZH) is crucial for improving the efficiency and stability of catalysts for photocatalytic water splitting. In this study, ultrathin TiO2 nanosheets were integrated into ZnIn2S4 to produce TiO2-ZnIn2S4 heterostructure nanoflowers, enhancing the overall system performance. The optimized DZH nanoflowers exhibit enhanced PWS activity and excellent stability, making them promising candidates for efficient water splitting applications.
