Electrospun cellulose acetate fibers for the photodecolorization of methylene blue solutions under natural sunlight

I Santos-Sauceda et al.

Summary: Cellulose acetate fibers were prepared by electrospinning and proved to be effective in discoloring methylene blue solutions, showing higher efficiency under sunlight irradiation than in dark conditions. The use of electrospun CA mesh resulted in a 98% dye organic discoloration efficiency under natural solar illumination. The results suggest that this method could potentially lower manufacturing costs of adsorbent materials for wastewater treatment.

Electrospun freestanding hydrophobic fabric as a potential polymer semi-permeable membrane for islet encapsulation

Aakanksha Ruhela et al.

Summary: The study proposes a simple strategy to fabricate electrospun membranes that provide a favorable environment for proper islet function and desirable pore size to protect encapsulated islets from immune cells. The induced hydrophobicity and surface morphology of the membranes impede cell attachment and maintain the 3D circular morphology of islet cells. The pore size of 0.3-0.6 μm restricts immune cells but allows free movement of molecules like insulin and glucose, making the electrospun polymer fibrous membranes a strong candidate for successful islet encapsulation.
