Hybrid electrostatic and gecko-inspired gripping pads for manipulating bulky, non-smooth items

Amy Kyungwon Han et al.

Summary: This study introduces a hybrid electrostatic and gecko-inspired gripping pad for robots to lift and carry bulky objects, with a high effective coefficient of friction. The combination of electrostatic effects and gecko-inspired adhesion allows the pad to conform to non-smooth surfaces, providing higher shear forces.

Improved electroadhesive force by using fumed alumina/PDMS composites

Hanwhuy Lim et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of polymer-nanoparticle composites in electroadhesive devices to enhance force generation by modifying the high permittivity. By mixing alumina or fumed silica nanoparticles as the dielectric material in a polymer resin, composites with improved mechanical strengths and dielectric constants were achieved. Flexible electroadhesive devices with high force generation were successfully fabricated by integrating the composite materials onto PET substrates.

3D-printed electroactive polymer force-actuator for large and high precise optical mirror applications

Kritsadi Thetpraphi et al.

Summary: A new development of a full 3D-printed-force actuator based on an advanced electroactive polymer for large and live optical mirror applications was described. The actuator consists of a plasticized terpolymer layer sandwiched between two electrodes made of conductive terpolymer carbon black composite. The electromechanical performance was analyzed on a flat glass surface in various configurations.
