Molecular engineering and morphology of polyurethane elastomers containing various molecular weight of macrodiol

Summary: In this study, a series of polyurethane elastomers based on H12MDI/1,2-ethanediol with different molecular weights of polycaprolactone diols as soft segments were successfully synthesized by a two step technique. The crystallinity and hydrophilicity of the polymer films increased with longer soft segment chain lengths. Moreover, the degree of micro-phase separation was found to increase with higher molecular weights of polyols, as confirmed by XRD diffractogram results.

Impact of Macrodiols on the Morphological Behavior of H12MDI/HDO-Based Polyurethane Elastomer

Summary: This study evaluated the morphological behavior of polyurethane elastomers by modifying the soft segment chain length. Increasing the molecular weight of the soft segment was found to enhance microphase separation and crystallinity of the synthesized polymers. Additionally, an increase in the molecular weight of polyols was observed to result in a decrease in surface energy and an increase in contact angle with test liquids.
