Many-Body Chern Number from Statistical Correlations of Randomized Measurements

Ze-Pei Cian et al.

Summary: The proposed experimental scheme in this study allows for the measurement of the many-body Chern number without the need for ancilla or knowledge of the Hamiltonian. By utilizing statistical correlations of randomized measurements, the MBCN of a wave function can be inferred, particularly in disklike geometries that are more suitable for current quantum simulator architectures.

Information scrambling in quantum circuits

Xiao Mi et al.

Summary: By measuring the time-dependent evolution and fluctuation of out-of-time-order correlators on a 53-qubit quantum processor, this experiment investigates the dynamics of quantum scrambling. It is shown that operator entanglement in idealized circuits requires exponentially scaled computational resources to simulate, while operator spreading can be captured by an efficient classical model. These results pave the way for studying complex physical observables with near-term quantum processors.

Realizing topologically ordered states on a quantum processor

K. J. Satzinger et al.

Summary: The discovery of topological order revolutionized the understanding of quantum matter and laid the theoretical groundwork for quantum error-correcting codes. By preparing the ground state of the toric code Hamiltonian on a superconducting quantum processor, researchers were able to measure topological entanglement entropy and simulate anyon interferometry. Investigating aspects of the surface code, including logical state injection and the decay of nonlocal order parameter, showed the potential of quantum processors in studying topological quantum matter and error correction mechanisms.

Symmetry-resolved entanglement detection using partial transpose moments

Antoine Neven et al.

Summary: We present a set of experimentally accessible conditions for detecting entanglement in mixed states, involving comparing moments of the partially transposed density operator up to a certain order, and find that the union of all moment inequalities can reproduce the Peres-Horodecki criterion. Our studies show that the first four conditions are already reliable in detecting mixed state entanglement in various quantum architectures, and exploiting symmetries can further enhance detection capabilities. We also demonstrate how to estimate moment inequalities based on local random measurements of single state copies and derive statistically sound confidence intervals as the number of measurements increases. Our analysis includes the experimentally relevant situation of drifting sources, i.e. non-identical, but independent, state copies.

Bound Entanglement from Randomized Measurements

Satoya Imai et al.

Summary: In this study, systematic methods are presented to analyze different forms of entanglement in multiparticle quantum systems through random measurements and moments of probability distributions. Criteria for various forms of entanglement in three-qubit systems and multiqubit systems are optimized using second moments of randomized measurements. Additionally, criteria for detecting bound entangled states in higher-dimensional two-particle systems and higher moments are provided.

Programmable quantum simulations of spin systems with trapped ions

C. Monroe et al.

Summary: Laser-cooled and trapped atomic ions provide an ideal platform for simulating interacting quantum spin models. By using optical fields to modulate the ions' Coulomb interaction, long-range and tunable spin-spin interactions can be produced. This quantum simulator allows for the study of complex equilibrium states and dynamical processes in many-body interacting quantum systems.

Efficient Estimation of Pauli Observables by Derandomization

Hsin-Yuan Huang et al.

Summary: A derandomization procedure is proposed to efficiently estimate expectation values of many Pauli observables, ensuring performance at least as good as randomized measurements. For estimating low-weight Pauli observables, only a logarithmic number of copies of a quantum state are needed for deterministic measurements. In certain cases, the derandomized procedure outperforms the randomized one, as shown in numerical experiments estimating ground-state energies of small molecules.

Quantum Ergodicity in the Many-Body Localization Problem

Felipe Monteiro et al.

Summary: The generalization of Page's result to many-body eigenstates of realistic disordered systems reveals that for increasing disorder, eigenstates only fill a fraction of the Fock space and exhibit intrinsic correlations. Prior to the many-body localization transition, individual eigenstates are thermally distributed over these shells, contradicting the concept of nonergodic extended states in many-body systems.

Local Pairing of Feynman Histories in Many-Body Floquet Models

S. J. Garratt et al.

Summary: We investigate many-body quantum dynamics using Floquet quantum circuits in one space dimension as examples of systems with local interactions supporting ergodic phases. Our focus is on the behavior of the spectral form factor (SFF) and matrix elements of local operators, comparing predictions with random matrix theory (RMT) and eigenstate thermalization hypothesis (ETH). We find that deviations from RMT and ETH predictions increase with system size, highlighting the importance of orbit-pairing domains in spectral properties.

Additionally, we identified a universal regime that is insensitive to the global density of states and spectral edge effects.
