Long-run equilibrium relationship between energy consumption and CO2 emissions: a dynamic heterogeneous analysis on North Africa

Mohammed Musah et al.

Summary: This study focused on the relationship between energy consumption and CO2 emissions in North Africa, finding that energy consumption worsened environmental quality by increasing CO2 emissions. Urbanization and economic growth were also found to contribute to higher CO2 emissions in the region. The study revealed bidirectional causalities between energy consumption and CO2 emissions, urbanization and CO2 emissions, economic growth and CO2 emissions, as well as urbanization and energy consumption, with unidirectional causalities from economic growth to energy consumption and urbanization. The findings underscore the need for North African countries to transition to clean energy sources to achieve a low-carbon economy.

The effect of technological innovation, FDI, and financial development on CO2 emission: evidence from the G8 countries

Aysha Abid et al.

Summary: The research found a significant long-term negative relationship between foreign direct investment, financial development, and technological innovation with CO2 emissions in G8 countries. Additionally, there is a long-term bidirectional causality among economic growth, financial development, urbanization, trade openness, CO2 emissions, and energy use in these countries. A high-quality foreign direct investment is crucial for industrial development, technological innovation, and financial growth in the G8 countries.

Hui An et al.

Summary: The study examines the impact of the Belt and Road Initiative on the ecological sustainability of infrastructure projects, finding an inverted U-shaped association between economic growth and CO(2) emissions, as well as an increase in carbon emissions in medium to high emission countries due to Chinese outward FDI. People's connectivity contributes to emissions while innovation helps mitigate carbon emissions in lower to medium polluted countries.

Assessing the impacts of ageing and natural resource extraction on carbon emissions: A proposed policy framework for European economies

Daniel Balsalobre-Lorente et al.

Summary: European nations are facing challenges in climate action and energy security due to aging population and globalization. The study suggests a reorientation of existing policy frameworks to reduce carbon emissions by exploring the impact of natural resource extraction and age dependence. The empirical results show an inverted U-shaped relationship between carbon emissions, natural resource extraction, globalization index, economic growth, and aging population, in line with the Environmental Kuznets Curve hypothesis. A multi-faceted Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) framework has been designed based on the findings, evaluating SDG 7, SDG 13, and SDG 8, as well as suggesting a way to assess several related SDGs.

Effects of population structure on CO2 emissions in South Asian countries: evidence from panel estimation

Usman Mehmood et al.

Summary: The changing population structure in South Asian countries is linked to growing social, economic, and environmental problems, with age structure found to have an impact on CO2 emissions. India has been identified as having a stronger association between age structure and CO2 emissions compared to other South Asian countries, particularly with individuals under 15 years and over 65 years being responsible for increased emissions. Governments in these countries need to prioritize age structure in order to improve air quality.
