Use of drugs to treat symptoms and acute conditions during pregnancy in outpatient care in Switzerland between 2014 and 2018: analysis of Swiss healthcare claims data

Eva Gerbier et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the utilization of prescribed drugs during pregnancy in Switzerland, focusing on treatments for pain, infections, gastro-oesophageal reflux, nausea/vomiting, and constipation. The results showed that the most commonly claimed drugs during pregnancy included analgesics, antibiotics, antacids, anti-nausea drugs, and laxatives. The exposure to potentially teratogenic and fetotoxic drugs was small, but further research is needed to determine the clinical indications for their use.
