Removal of polystyrene and polyethylene microplastics using PAC and FeCl3 coagulation: Performance and mechanism

Guanyu Zhou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the removal performance of PS and PE microplastics using PAC and FeCl3 coagulants. Results showed that PAC was more effective than FeCl3, especially in alkaline conditions. Adsorption and complexation were the main removal mechanisms, with the formation of new bonds enhancing the efficiency.

Removal of microplastics from aqueous solutions by magnetic carbon nanotubes

Ye Tang et al.

Summary: This study synthesized magnetic carbon nanotubes (M-CNTs) as adsorbates for the efficient removal of microplastics. The M-CNTs were able to effectively adsorb various types of microplastics and could be easily separated by magnetic force. Additionally, the adsorbed M-CNTs showed potential for recycling and maintained high removal capacity after multiple uses.

Investigation of microplastic pollution in river Alaknanda stretch of Uttarakhand

Jaspal Singh Chauhan et al.

Summary: Research on microplastic pollution is rapidly expanding worldwide, but is lacking in the freshwater ecosystem of India. This pioneering study in an Indian river found a total of 955 microplastic particles, with fibers being the dominant type and particles smaller than 1 mm being most abundant. The presence of these fine plastic particles poses a significant threat to aquatic life, as they were found to be attached with metals indicating potential risks to living organisms.
