China's Key Forestry Ecological Development Programs: Implementation, Environmental Impact and Challenges

Hui Wang et al.

Summary: China has implemented key forestry ecological development programs to alleviate environmental issues caused by deforestation, including NFPP, CCFP, DCBT, KSDP, and WCNR. These programs have made significant progress in increasing vegetative coverage, enhancing carbon sequestration, controlling soil erosion, and biodiversity conservation, but a more balanced approach and active involvement of scientific communities are needed for proper implementation and remarkable achievement. The environmental impact of DCBT, KSDP, and WCNR warrant more research attention.

Collection of Non-Timber Forest Products in Chinese Giant Panda Reserves: The Effect of Religious Beliefs

Mingchuan Li et al.

Summary: This study explores the influence of religious beliefs on farmers' collection behaviors of Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFPs). Results show that farmers with religious beliefs collect NTFPs to a lesser extent, indicating that religious belief can guide individual resource utilization behavior and help achieve mutual coordination of ecological protection and economic development. The important role of religious belief in natural resource utilization has often been overlooked in previous studies.

Projections for Mexico's Tropical Rainforests Considering Ecological Niche and Climate Change

Antonio Fidel Santos-Hernandez et al.

Summary: This paper proposes priority areas for conservation in Mexico's tropical rainforest based on ecological niche and species distribution modeling of 22 species, finding that future climate change scenarios may lead to a migration of plant distribution to higher elevation regions.

Prey availability modulates predicted range contraction of two large felids in response to changing climate

Rasoul Khosravi et al.

Summary: The study found that incorporating prey availability into species distribution models significantly affects the predicted outcomes for Persian leopards, but has minimal impact on predictions for Asiatic cheetahs when considering climate change.

Of pandas, fossils, and bamboo forests: ecological niche modeling of the giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) during the Last Glacial Maximum

Carlos Luna-Arangure et al.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the evolutionary history and distribution patterns of the giant panda using a combination of phylogeography, ecological niche modeling, and fossil data. The results indicate that the panda's diversification occurred approximately 2.7 million years ago, coinciding with its transition from a carnivorous to a vegetarian diet. The proposed ENM based on the panda's food habits accurately predicted 85.7% of the Last Glacial Maximum fossils, highlighting the importance of integrating fossil information into niche modeling processes to better understand species ecological niches.
