Cardiac fibroblast activation detected by Ga-68 FAPI PET imaging as a potential novel biomarker of cardiac injury/remodeling

J. Siebermair et al.

Summary: This study investigated myocardial FAPI uptake in patients undergoing Ga-68 FAPI PET. Results showed an association between myocardial tracer accumulation and coronary artery disease, age, and left ventricular ejection fraction. Further research is needed to evaluate the reliability of measuring fibroblast activation and its potential use for risk stratification in CAD and left ventricular remodeling.

Machine Learning-Derived Fractal Features of Shape and Texture of the Left Atrium and Pulmonary Veins From Cardiac Computed Tomography Scans Are Associated With Risk of Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation Postablation

Marjan Firouznia et al.

Summary: The study utilized fractal measurements of the left atrium and pulmonary veins through computerized analysis to predict the likelihood of atrial fibrillation recurrence after ablation. By identifying top features associated with post-ablation recurrence and constructing dedicated classifiers, the study demonstrated significant predictive performance in distinguishing AF recurrence. Combining fractal measurements with clinical parameters improved the predictive accuracy of post-ablation AF recurrence.

Feasibility of catheter ablation in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation guided by fragmented late-gadolinium enhancement areas

Kunihiko Kiuchi et al.

Summary: The study found that radiofrequency ablation of fragmented LGE areas in patients with persistent AF can result in favorable responses in half of the patients, either terminating AF or converting it to atrial tachycardia. The FLA ablation group had significantly lower AF recurrence at 12 months follow-up compared to the PVI group, and patients with a favorable response had lower rates of AT recurrence.

Summary: In patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF), ablation index (AI) is significantly associated with atrial wall thickness and gap formation within the wide antral catheter ablation (WACA) circle. The ratio of AI to wall thickness has the highest predictive value for gap formation.

Posterior Left Atrial Adipose Tissue Attenuation Assessed by Computed Tomography and Recurrence of Atrial Fibrillation After Catheter Ablation

Mohammed El Mahdiui et al.

Summary: The study found that the attenuation of posterior LA adipose tissue may serve as a promising predictor of AF recurrence following catheter ablation. Higher adipose tissue attenuation could indicate increased local inflammation and potentially be an imaging biomarker for increased risk of AF recurrence.

Summary: The study proposed a new free-breathing 3D PSIR LGE sequence with Dixon encoding, providing grey-blood PSIR and fat volumes in a single scan. The proposed approach showed good agreement with conventional 2D LGE in terms of contrast ratio, scar depiction, and image quality, while enabling free-breathing acquisition and visualization of both water and fat information.
