Discrepancies in global vitamin C recommendations: a review of RDA criteria and underlying health perspectives

Anitra C. Carr et al.

Summary: There are significant discrepancies in global recommendations for daily vitamin C intake, with factors such as gender, age, pregnancy, lactation, and smoking being debated among regulatory authorities. Despite the looming global obesity pandemic, body weight as a significant predictor of vitamin C status and requirement has not been considered in dietary recommendations.

Dietary Antioxidants and the Risk of Parkinson Disease The Swedish National March Cohort

Essi Hantikainen et al.

Summary: This study found that dietary intake of vitamin E and C may be inversely associated with the risk of Parkinson disease, while there was no association found with dietary beta-carotene or NEAC. It provides Class III evidence for the inverse association between dietary vitamin E and C intake and the risk of PD.

Antioxidant Therapeutics in Parkinson's Disease: Current Challenges and Opportunities

Ana Patricia Duarte-Jurado et al.

Summary: Although antioxidants have shown efficacy in maintaining neuronal survival and activity in preclinical studies on PD models, they have not been able to be disease modifiers in clinical trials. Current challenges in translational medicine include redesigning clinical trials to standardize criteria for testing molecules to reduce variability in responses.
