Survival Trends After Surgery for Spinal Metastatic Tumors: 20-Year Cancer Center Experience

Robert J. Rothrock et al.

Summary: The study found that postoperative survival among patients with spinal metastases has improved over the past 20 years, particularly in patients with kidney, breast, lung, and colon tumors metastatic to the spine. Patients with synchronous metastatic disease had better survival compared to those with metachronous disease. These results emphasize the need for long-term outcome consideration in treatment decisions for patients undergoing surgery for spinal metastatic tumors.

Surgical Intervention for Patients With Spinal Metastasis From Lung Cancer A Retrospective Study of 87 Cases

Van Tri Truong et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the prognosis and surgical outcomes of patients with spinal metastasis from lung cancer undergoing surgical treatment. Factors such as tobacco use, preoperative and postoperative American Spinal Injury Association score, postoperative walking ability, and postoperative radiotherapy and chemotherapy were found to affect survival.

Readmission-Free Survival Analysis in Metastatic Spine Tumour Surgical Patients: A Novel Concept

Naresh Kumar et al.

Summary: Readmission-free survival (ReAFS) is a novel outcome indicator in metastatic spine tumor surgery (MSTS) that can be prolonged by factors such as higher hemoglobin levels, lower ECOG scores, specific primary cancers, fewer comorbidities, absence of preoperative radiotherapy, and shorter postoperative length of stay.
