Online monitoring and analysis of TBM cutter temperature: A case study in China

Jie Fu et al.

Summary: Excessive cutter temperature during TBM tunnelling may lead to severe wear, mud cake formation, or even blockage. A cutter temperature monitoring system based on temperature sensors and wireless technology was developed. Statistical analysis showed that cutter temperature ranged from 13? to 25?, and relative temperature changes were influenced by penetration rate and sludge flow velocity.

Soil Conditioning for EPB Shield Tunneling in Silty Clay and Weathered Mudstone

Zeen Wan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of soil conditioning technology in EPB shield tunneling, focusing on the properties of soil conditioning agents and their interactions. Experimental tests and field applications in Changchun Metro Line 2, China, show that the composite application of foam agent and anticlay agent can effectively improve soil adhesion, decrease torque and adhesion strength, and enhance construction efficiency. The results indicate that the concentration of the foam agent solution and the amount of anticlay agent play crucial roles in determining foam expansion ratio and half-life time.
