241Am/Be source optimum geometry for DSRS management-based Monte Carlo simulations

Cebastien Joel Guembou Shouop et al.

Summary: The study evaluated different geometries for disused sealed radioactive source disposal and found that disk and point sources were the most radiologically optimized shapes, while rectangle or parallelepiped forms were the worst cases in terms of radiation exposure.

Measurements of the cross-section of 111Cd(n,n′)111mCd reaction for 241Am/Be neutrons

G. S. M. Ahmed et al.

Summary: The cross-section of the Cd-111(n,n ')Cd-111m reaction was measured using Am-241/Be neutrons and a natural cadmium target, with neutron fluence and mean neutron energy determined through known cross-sections of monitor reactions. The gamma-ray activity of reaction products was measured using an HPGe detector with efficiency calculations performed, resulting in a cross-section of 361 +/- 21 mb. Contributions of accompanying reactions Cd-110(n,gamma)Cd-111m and Cd-112(n, 2n)Cd-111m were estimated, with cross-sections found to be 0.16 mb and 8.99 mb, respectively.

Improved experimental evaluation and model validation of a 252Cf irradiator for delayed gamma-ray spectrometry applications

M. Tohamy et al.

Summary: Experimental and MCNP modeled results of neutron flux monitoring in an irradiator show deviations of around 20% between measured and calculated thermal fluxes. However, both measured and modeled thermal fluxes are significantly higher than the fluxes at resonance peak energies, indicating the sufficiency of the irradiator. With a(252)Cf sealed source, a thermal flux in the range of 2(-5) x 10^4 n.s(-1).cm(-2) is achievable, making it suitable for active analysis techniques.
