Overexpression of GLUT3 promotes metastasis of triple-negative breast cancer by modulating the inflammatory tumor microenvironment

Tai-Hua Tsai et al.

Summary: In TNBC, GLUT3 expression is elevated and associated with tumor metastasis and poor prognosis by promoting invasiveness and distant metastasis through regulating CXCL8. GLUT3 is also correlated with inflammatory gene expressions and associated with M1 TAMs, enhancing activity of TNBC cells. Aerobic glycolysis in TNBC not only promotes aggressiveness of tumor cells but also initiates a positive regulatory loop for enhancing tumor progression by modulating the inflammatory TME.

Functional Expression of the Human Glucose Transporters GLUT2 and GLUT3 in Yeast Offers Novel Screening Systems for GLUT-Targeting Drugs

Sina Schmidl et al.

Summary: This study developed a whole-cell system using a yeast strain deficient in hexose uptake to screen potential GLUT2 and GLUT3 inhibitors. The system is convenient and suitable for high-throughput experiments. Additionally, the expression system can accelerate the discovery of compounds that modulate the hexose transport activity of GLUT2 and GLUT3.

Summary: This study focused on the role of GLUT2 in cells and identified eleven new GLUT2 inhibitors through experiments. These inhibitors can be used to examine the physiological role of GLUT2 in relation to other GLUTs, block glucose entry in cancer cells, and reduce intestinal absorption of fructose.

A role for GLUT3 in glioblastoma cell invasion that is not recapitulated by GLUT1

Catherine J. Libby et al.

Summary: The study suggests that GLUT3 plays a more direct role in promoting invasion, independent of changes in cell survival or metabolism. GLUT3 elevation increases tumor cell invasion, while GLUT1 does not have the same effect. Additionally, the role of GLUT3 in invasion is separate from its role in metabolism and survival.
