Respiratory viral co-infections among SARS-CoV-2 cases confirmed by virome capture sequencing

Ki Wook Kim et al.

Summary: There is a high prevalence of viral co-infections among SARS-CoV-2 patients, which may worsen the clinical outcome of COVID-19. Studies in Australia show the importance of assessing all pathogens in symptomatic patients, and the dual-functionality of Twist hybrid-capture for SARS-CoV-2 whole-genome sequencing and simultaneous identification of viral co-infections.

A domestic cat whole exome sequencing resource for trait discovery

Alana R. Rodney et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the effectiveness of whole exome sequencing (WES) as a method to investigate genetic disease variants in domestic cats, enabling the identification of pathogenic gene variants for diseases and traits. Utilizing an exome capture design based on the annotated Felis_catus_9.0 genome assembly, WES was performed on 41 cats, revealing both known pathogenic variants and new gene candidate variants.
