Thermal and flow investigation of MHD natural convection in a nanofluid-saturated porous enclosure: an asymptotic analysis

Lefteris Th. Benos et al.

Summary: The present study obtained asymptotic solutions regarding the laminar natural convection of a nanofluid in a porous enclosure subject to internal heating and magnetic field, which is widely applied in industrial and bioengineering applications. The innovation of this study lies in providing a first-principles approach for describing the thermal conductivity and viscosity of nanofluids with three kinds of nanoparticles dispersed in aqueous suspension, and examining the effects of various factors on nanofluid flow and heat transfer. The study suggests that an increase in magnetic field intensity tends to suppress nanofluid flow, while increasing internal heating reinforces convective currents in favor of cooling process.

Summary: This paper examines the impact of Lorentz force on heat transfer and analyzes the behavior of nanomaterial within a domain studied through non-equilibrium theory. The addition of the radiation term and investigation of the shape factor impact were also conducted. Results show that the suppression of convective flow in the presence of Lorentz forces leads to a decrease in the average Nusselt number Nu(ave); as Rayleigh number increases, more complex isotherms are generated and Nu(ave) increases.

Effects of various configurations of an inserted corrugated conductive cylinder on MHD natural convection in a hybrid nanofluid-filled square domain

Tahar Tayebi et al.

Summary: The study aimed to understand heat transfer and flow characteristics by natural convection of Al2O3-Cu/water-based hybrid nanofluid-filled square domain with various corrugated solid configurations under a horizontal magnetic field. Numerical solutions were obtained for the non-dimensional equations using finite volume discretization technique. It was found that maximum heat transmission rate occurred for weak Hartmann, undulation number, undulation amplitude, and high Rayleigh and nanoparticles volumic fraction values. Moreover, the fluid/solid heat conductivity ratio parameter enhanced heat transfer at weak Rayleigh while diminishing it at high Rayleigh.
