Identifying drought-tolerant genotypes of faba bean and their agro-physiological responses to different water regimes in an arid Mediterranean environment

Elsayed Mansour et al.

Summary: This study characterized the performance of 14 faba bean genotypes under water stress, identifying drought-tolerant genotypes that produced higher yields with less water. Certain physiological parameters were found to be rapid indicators of drought tolerance in faba bean genotypes, particularly in arid environments, making them valuable for breeding programs.

Exogenously Used 24-Epibrassinolide Promotes Drought Tolerance in Maize Hybrids by Improving Plant and Water Productivity in an Arid Environment

El-Sayed M. Desoky et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of 24-epibrassinolide (EBR24) on plant physio-biochemistry and crop water productivity under semi-arid conditions. It was found that irrigation water deficiency (IWD) decreased various physiological traits and crop productivity, but EBR24 had a protective effect and improved these parameters. Different maize hybrids showed varied drought tolerance, with certain hybrids exhibiting better performance under moderate or severe drought conditions.

Physio-Biochemical and Agronomic Responses of Faba Beans to Exogenously Applied Nano-Silicon Under Drought Stress Conditions

El-Sayed M. Desoky et al.

Summary: Nano-silicon application proves to be an efficient novel approach in mitigating the deleterious impacts of drought stress on field crops. During two-season field studies, it was found that foliar application of nano-silicon significantly improved physiological and biochemical attributes of faba beans and enhanced crop water productivity. Drought stress negatively affected various parameters and seed yield-related traits, but the application of nano-silicon, particularly at a concentration of 1.5 mM, effectively alleviated the impact of drought stress and improved overall plant performance.
