Corneal Subbasal Nerve Plexus Evaluation by in Vivo Confocal Microscopy in Multiple Sclerosis: A Potential New Biomarker

Diogo Fernandes et al.

Summary: This study evaluated corneal subbasal nerve plexus morphology in Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients using in vivo corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) and found significant differences in nerve parameters between MS patients and healthy subjects. A nonlinear association between EDSS and corneal nerve density was observed, with a correlation to disability status in patients.

Corneal Immune Cells Are Increased in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis

Adnan Khan et al.

Summary: This study compared corneal immune cell density and near-nerve distance in different subtypes of patients with multiple sclerosis using corneal confocal microscopy (CCM). The results showed increased immature immune cell density and near-nerve distance in MS patients, suggesting CCM may serve as an imaging biomarker for assessing neuroimmune alterations in MS.
