Analysis of RIS-Based Terrestrial-FSO Link Over G-G Turbulence With Distance and Jitter Ratios

Alain R. Ndjiongue et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the skip-zone problem in terrestrial free-space optical (T-FSO) systems using a single-element reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS). Performance analysis of RIS-aided T-FSO links under turbulence and pointing errors is conducted, with numerical results indicating that RIS-based T-FSO performs better when the RIS module is located near the transmitter.

Surface Waves on Self-Complementary Metasurfaces: All-Frequency Hyperbolicity, Extreme Canalization, and TE-TM Polarization Degeneracy

Oleh Yermakov et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the properties of surface waves supported by anisotropic self-complementary metasurfaces, showing their hyperbolic structure and the possibility of switching wave canalization direction with a small frequency shift. It also reveals the inherent polarization degree of freedom in plane waves, opening up numerous opportunities for practical applications.

Hyperbolic surface wave propagation in mid-infrared metasurfaces with extreme anisotropy

Ahmed Mekawy et al.

Summary: This work explores the practical implementation of hyperbolic metasurfaces at mid-infrared wavelengths, utilizing devices composed of metals and high-index semiconductor materials to realize low loss hyperbolic surface waves. The role of broken symmetries in these hybrid metasurfaces is discussed to enable large and broadband hyperbolic responses spanning the entire mid-infrared wavelength range.
