High-Dose Vitamin D Does Not Prevent Postoperative Recurrence of Crohn's Disease in a Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial

Jessica R. de Bruyn et al.

Summary: High-dose vitamin D did not reduce the incidence of postoperative endoscopic or clinical recurrence of Crohn's disease in patients who underwent ileocolonic resection with ileocolonic anastomosis, compared with placebo.

Summary: This study suggests that blood vitamin D levels may be associated with disease activity and treatment response in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. Low vitamin D levels were significantly related to clinical, endoscopic, and histological activity in patients, potentially influencing the efficacy of biologic drugs.

Immunoporosis: Role of Innate Immune Cells in Osteoporosis

Yogesh Saxena et al.

Summary: Osteoporosis, a result of bone remodeling imbalance, is closely related to the immune system and inflammatory diseases. Inflammatory mediators play a critical role in the pathogenesis of osteoporosis. Both innate and adaptive immune cells contribute to osteoporosis, with innate cells being the major effectors of inflammation.

Effects of oral vitamin D supplementation on inflammatory bowel disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Yiwen Guo et al.

Summary: This study analyzed 17 trials with 1127 patients and found that oral Vitamin D supplementation effectively increased serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration and decreased C-reactive protein levels, but did not have a significant impact on erythrocyte sedimentation rate, disease activity index, and relapse rate in IBD patients. These findings suggest that oral Vitamin D supplementation could be a safe therapeutic strategy for managing IBD.
